1. The standard we build to
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, across the public site and the patient portal. We treat it as the bar for new work, not as a claim about every screen already built.
2. What is in place today
- Controls are built on accessible component primitives, so buttons, fields, dialogs and menus can be reached and operated with a keyboard and carry names a screen reader can read.
- Focus is visible: the element you are on is outlined, not just highlighted by colour.
- On touch devices, small buttons carry a 44-pixel target even where the button is drawn smaller.
- Text is set in relative units, so your browser's and device's text-size settings scale the page.
- Colour pairs come from one token set and are checked by an automated test that fails if body text falls below a 4.5:1 contrast ratio, in both the light and dark themes.
- Assessment questions are one screen at a time, and progress saves, so you can stop and come back.
3. What we know is not done
- No independent accessibility audit has been carried out.
- We have not tested every flow end to end with a screen reader or with voice control.
- A few small chart and diagram labels are still set at a fixed size and do not scale with your text settings.
4. Tell us what blocked you
Email us with the page you were on and what you could not do. We will work with you to give you the information or the care another way while we fix it, and we can provide this page and other information in an accessible format on request.
5. Ontario law
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and its Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation set out how organizations in Ontario must make their websites, information and services accessible. This statement, and the feedback route above, are part of how we meet those obligations.
